Invited talks
Two invited talks were given at STC O meetings in 2024:
- Data-Driven Design and Control of Manufacturing Systems by B. Tan during the Winter Meetings in February 2024.
- An introduction of the advanced manufacturing program in U.S. National Science
Foundation and relevant international collaboration opportunities by S.Bukkapatnam in during the General Aseembly Part II in August 2024.
Paper Presentations and Technical Reports
At the two STC O meetings in 2024, a total of 11 technical presentations (6 in February, and 5 in August) were delivered and discussed. While the February talks focused on STC O research area (4) “Optimisation of circular production systems”, the talks in August were organized around STC O focus area (5) “Digitalisation in production systems”.
CIRP Novel Topics in Production Engineering
In terms of the CIRP Novel Topics in Production Engineering, three proposals were provided during the STC O August meeting
- Proposal 1: Achieving Predictive and Prescriptive Quality Control in Generative AI-enable Additive Manufacturing by N. Li, X. Li et al.
- Proposal 2: Unleashing the Power of General-Purpose LLMs to Domain-Specific-Manufacturing by P. Wang, P. Zheng, et al.
- Proposal 3: Safety and Performance Assurance in Human-Centric Collaborative Manufacturing Systems by S. Bukkapatnam, M. Colledani
The three proposals were approved by consensus.
STC O organization
During the year 2024 the following directions have been proposed by the Chairs, open discussed during the STC-O meetings (Winter meeting Feb 2024 and General Assembly Aug 2024) and approved by the member attending the meetings:
Enhancing scientific dialogue:
• Keynote presentations change from simple updates on the progress of the Keynote preparation to detailed technical discussions of distinct subsections of the area. One/two subsections for each meeting.
• Utilize the CNTPE essays as a channel for scientific presentation of the areas of interest of the STC-O to researchers approaching the field.
Connecting with the external community of experts:
• Utilizing one (or maximum two) slots during the STC-O meetings in Part II of the GA and of the Winter meetings to engage with renowned people currently external to the STC.
Managing sponsored conferences:
• Better exploit CIRP CMS sponsored conferences by emphasizing the link between the conference and the main body of CIRP STC-O (e.g. by giving a presentation of STC-O at the conference and introducing a best paper award from STC-O).
• The STC-O takes an active role in reviewing and selecting the papers in CMS conferences.
• A transient phase will start with CMS conference 2025 and continue with the 2026 and 2027 CMS conferences.
